Pick Up Truck involved in Flood Sold with Clean Title

Kenton Basinger paid $14000 for a 2012 Chevy Silverado in Houston Texas, which is $4000 less than the average selling price in 2018.

Seems like he got a great deal… right? Not so fast.

After Mr. Basinger began experiencing multiple malfunctions with his new truck he took the truck to a local mechanic and what he found was quite sickening.

Floods come and floods go.

However, what the floods often leave behind can be experienced by consumers for many years to come, and as consumers, we have to be aware and know what to lookout for to protect ourselves by deceitful sellers of vehicles.

Before you buy any vehicle, whether from a dealer or a private seller, take precautions and know how to spot the signs of a flooded vehicle by doing the following:

  • Inspect the carpeting for water damage
  • Look for signs of rust on screws and other metal objects
  • Look for signs of water on upholstery
  • Notice any musty or mildew smells inside the trunk
  • Lift the spare tire and look for signs of water damage
  • Check for signs of rust under the dashboard with a flashlight
  • Inspect the undercarriage for high water signs
  • Check the operation of ALL electrical systems

If you see any signs or have any suspicion that the vehicle you are looking at has flood damage, I would strongly suggest that you walk away and look for another vehicle to buy.

However, if you really gotta have this particular vehicle, and you are really not sure about flood damage, before you buy the car, have the vehicle inspected by your own professional mechanic.
